Vena and Chay at Huntsmill Farm.

It was my first time shooting at Huntsmill Farm and hopefully not my last. Driving through the countryside on the way to the venue it was absolutely beautiful and the farm itself is completely secluded. As soon as I arrived the main man Henry made me feel extremely welcome along with the rest of the suppliers on site and the guests that had arrived early were in great spirits. The good vibes were there from the start and it was going to be an awesome day.

I happened to be shooting this wedding on my birthday (which proves how much I love my job!) and it was made extra special by the fact that I was being reunited with a few familiar faces from my Leeds University days (thank you Kelly!). Chay had also been at Leeds and we had joked that we had probably met originally at a house party many moons ago through mutual friends.

I’d met with Vena and Chay in person a few weeks earlier to chat through the day, what they were most excited about, any special requirements they had and I also happened to be let in on a secret with the bride. Vena was about to earn major wife points as she had organised as a surprise for aerobatics display to take place after the ceremony. A gesture I knew would be very warmly received by Chay who has recently achieved his life long ambition of becoming a pilot. I was already excited for the day.

The groom arrived looking cool, calm and just really happy. Smiling from ear to ear. He and his groomsmen were in high sprits and everyone was ready to kick the day off. I stole away to the bridal suite where Vena was ready and waiting and looking absolutely breath taking. Surrounded by her closest friends, you could feel the excitement as they shared those last few moments together before they walked her to meet Chay and say ‘I do’.

Now. That entrance. Vena walked herself down the aisle in a way that made me beam from behind the camera. She owned that moment completely. The ceremony itself was conducted by some of the loveliest registrars that I’ve met. They created the most perfect atmosphere inside the beautiful barn and with the additions of two readings from Chay’s Aunt and Vena’s oldest friend it was quite simply, perfect.

Canapes and drinks were then served at the alfresco bar next to the retro telephone box. Then ever so casually the groom’s gift arrived. His very own aerobatics display. All of the adults suddenly reverted back to being kids as they watched with ‘ohhs’ and ‘ahhs’ as the plane careered around the sky with smoke trails spelling out their initials. Then came the stall turns and barrel rolls. It was absolutely brilliant to watch and at times I had to remind myself to take photos!

The October weather was a little on the brisk side but the rain held off and as the new Mr and Mrs drove off into the distance (disclaimer: the distance was in fact about 100m away) the sun even fought through the clouds to see everyone in to the wedding breakfast in the beautiful converted barn. The detail that had gone into decorating the barn was incredible and it was the perfect back drop to continue the days celebrations.

Before pie and mash was served (erm, yum) the guests were treated to some absolutely brilliant speeches which had everyone in fits of laughter (see photos). Whilst the guest tucked into their feast I opened my very own snack pack curtesy of the bride (seriously, the detail) and then headed in to capture a few last photos before I headed on my way.

I enjoyed spending the day with Vena and Chay and their family and friends so much. As I bid farewell to them, Vena told me to have a safe journey home. A small sentiment but something that struck a bit of a chord with me as to how thoughtful it was to say amidst their day. Proof that I really do get to work with the very best couples who when I leave, I feel like I’ve become friends with.

To the new Mr and Mrs. Many, many congratulations to you both. It was quite simply a phenomenal day and I feel very honoured to have been a part of it. Thanks for having me. Cx
